Rob Lowe is coming back to TV and not just in DirectTV ads. He’s been tapped to star in Fox’s comedy, The Grinder, as an aging but beloved TV star. I would make a life imitating art joke here but I’m not sure Rob Lowe actually ages. He just gets more and more handsome with each passing year, like George Clooney.
Anyway, back to The Grinder. The show, which was recently given a pilot order from the network, is about a TV lawyer, nicknamed The Grinder (get it?) whose long-running hit show comes to an end. Not sure how to move forward in the aftermath, Dean Sanderson moves home to his small town. He seems to think years spent playing an attorney on the small screen has given him the experience to set foot in the courtroom for real. He’s vying to take over the family law firm. As you might imagine, hilarity ensues.
For Lowe, The Grinder it’s just another in a long list of roles that keeps growing. He’s returning to NBC’s Parks & Recreation, where he already finished a run, and will star alongside Jenna Fischer and Megan Mullally in Apocalypse, a 10-episode dramedy also airing on NBC, TVLine reports. A five-time Golden Globe nominee, Lowe has plenty of on screen experience as a lawyer. His wonderful Sam Seaborn from The West Wing, started out as and then later returned to being a lawyer in a major firm in between stints in the White House.
The Fox show is one of eight comedies the network has ordered to pilot this season. As a Rob Lowe fan, I’m definitely pulling for The Grinder to be good and to stick around. My week needs more his handsome face and deliciously precise speaking style. Plus, you know, he’s an awesome actor too.
