Practice Makes Perfect; John Travolta Asked To Present At This Year's Oscars

It seems as though John Travolta has been given a chance to redeem himself after last year’s “Adele Dazeem” mishap at the Oscars; he’s been asked back this year to present again.

Personally, I am glad because I have a bit of a soft spot for him, having spent most of my childhood hopelessly devoted to Danny Zucko! I felt really sorry for him last year, and I am pleased that he’s been asked and that he felt able to return. Go out there and show ‘em what you’re made of, John!

In fact, it seems as though pity seemed to be the reason behind the selection of many of this year’s presenters. Jennifer Aniston, widely tipped for a nomination for Best Actress for her role in Cake, but who was then snubbed, has been asked to present, as has David Oyelowo who also missed out on a nomination for his role in Selma.

It’s like placating a small child with a lollipop, isn’t it?

They will be joining last year’s winners, Cate Blanchett, Jared Leto, Matthew McConaughey and Lupita Nyong’o in handing out awards, as well as Meryl Streep, Benedict Cumberbatch, Chris Pratt, Octavia Spencer and Oprah Winfrey.

With less than two weeks to go, the Oscars is also finalising its list of musical performances, with Anna Kendrick, Jennifer Hudson, John Legend and Adam Levine all set to perform. Joining them will be Tegan and Sara and Lonely Island to perform their Oscar nominated song, “Everything is Awesome” from The Lego Movie, and creators Chris Miller and Phil Lord promised it will be the “craziest performance at the Oscars.”

Will they beat host Neil Patrick Harris, though, who is set to perform an original song and dance number written for him by Frozen Oscar winners Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez?

My guess, knowing just how much of a showman Harris is, would be probably not.

The Oscars takes place on Sunday, February 22 and will air live from The Dolby Theatre on ABC.
