Academy Voter Says Guardians Of The Galaxy Should Have Been Up For Best Picture

This year’s Academy Awards are going to be very interesting, not only because (for the first time in a long time, at least in my opinion) the selection of movies and actors is really good, but because there were also some major snubs.

We all know The LEGO Movie was the biggest snub but there were others too. Like, let’s say… Guardians of the Galaxy.

The Academy doesn’t seem to like superhero movies (or fantasy movies in general, with a few exceptions here and there) other than for categories like make-up, visual and sound effects. It’s about time they gave them the recognition they truly deserve, don’t you think? Especially because Marvel and DC are slowly but surely taking over the world.

The final results didn’t show much love for our Guardians, but you can be sure they had some supporters among the voters.

The Hollywood Reporter shared an Oscar voter’s “brutally honest ballot”, where this anonymous voter shares that she voted for Guardians of the Galaxy to be nominated for Best Picture.

“I was happy to have the chance to vote for Guardians of the Galaxy. It could have and should have been nominated for best picture; I nominated it”, the voter shared on her comments about the Best Makeup and Hairstyling category.

The voter abstained from some categories because she “didn’t watch the movies” or she didn’t think her expertise was relevant (the sound categories, for example), but she did have something to say for the Visual Effects category.

“I don’t think I should be able to vote for this category either, but I can’t resist another opportunity to support Guardians of the Galaxy. It should get something”.

Guardians may have been ignored by the Academy, but the numbers don’t lie: it was, if not the absolute best, one of the top movies of 2014. The biggest proof is that, months later, we are still talking about it!

Don’t miss the Academy Awards tomorrow night, hosted by Neil Patrick Harris.
