Exciting news has reached us today! The infamous Task Force X, better known as the Suicide Squad is set to return to Arrow in the latter part of the third season. Episode 18, which is quite fittingly titled “Suicidal Tendencies” is scheduled to bring our favorite group of baddies (and goodies) back to our screen.
We were first introduced to the Suicide Squad in the season 2 episode “Suicide Squad” (#216). Amanda Waller, working for ARGUS, put together a team of criminals to use in high-risk mission. In the beginning the team consisted of Floyd “Deadshot” Lawton, the “Bronze Tiger” Ben Turner and Mark “Shrapnel” Scheffer, who unfortunately got blown up during their first mission, as he refused to follow orders. That’s the trick behind the Squad: a computer chip is integrated into the brain of each team member. Should they refuse orders or try to escape, they get blown up. Not the best kind of work environment. John and Lyla Diggle were primarily working with criminals, as ordered by Waller. We also got a little peak at Harley Quinn, who probably won’t be joining the team in the field anytime soon.
The last we heard of the Suicide Squad was the addition of Carry Cutter (“Cupid”) to the team in “Draw Back Your Bow” (#307). Supernatural-alum Amy Gumenick is set to reprise her role as Cupid. Deadshot (Michael Rowe) and Amanda Waller (Cynthia Addai-Robinson) are set to return as well, while the Bronze Tiger will be absent from the fun. And yet another character will be introduced in episode 18: “the corrupt politician Senator Cray, to be played by Grey’s Anatomy and Bosch star Steven Culp”, says ETonline. They further tease that Cray “will be at the center of a rescue operation in the fictional Republic of Kasnia”. I’m wondering if his last name is any indication for what to expect from the character. What I am most looking forward to in upcoming Suicide Squad episodes are the Diggle/Deadshot moments. These two went from arch enemies to acquaintances to team mates throughout the whole series, and their interactions are fun, heart-felt and entertaining. Please let us have more!
Earlier this month we have learned that Charlotte Ross will return as Felicity’s mom Donna Smoak, also in episode 18. This episode already promises to be filled with fantastic guest stars, a lot of action, and maybe even a little romance. How will Cupid’s return influence Oliver and Felicity’s already rocky relationship? Why is Mama Smoak coming back? And will she interact with the Suicide Squad and get a closer look at the life her daughter is leading in Starling City? As you can see, there is a lot to look forward to!
