Star of American Horror Story: Freak Show Michael Chiklis has thrown his hat in the ring for making an appearance next season.
Chiklis, who plays the now late Dell Toledo in this season’s show told Entertainment Weekly that he would lying if he said he wouldn’t consider returning to the franchise next year.
I am an avid fan of the FX drama, and although this season has left me rather cold on the whole, I have to say that the relationship between Dell and his son Jimmy, played by American Horror Story stalwart Evan Peters has been wonderful to watch. Some of the scenes have almost reduced me to tears, especially the hospital scene in the last episode “Magical Thinking”.
Chiklis was quick to say that although he would absolutely love to return to the franchise, he doesn’t know whether it will happen: “I will say that I don’t know that’s going to happen. I don’t know if they’re interested in that happening. In all candour, I don’t know what’s going to happen at this moment. But would I go back there again and play with those people? In a heartbeat.”
The premise of the next season of the show has not yet been announced, although as with previous seasons we have been told the clues are there to be found in Freak Show if we look closely. I will say that I haven’t worked it out yet, however I didn’t get the clues for Freak Show which were planted in last year’s Coven.
Chiklis, who previously starred in TV show The Wire and movies such as The Fantastic Four also praised his co-star Sarah Paulson, who plays conjoined twins Dot and Bette. He called her a “phenomenally talented actress, but quality human.” However, he didn’t envy the extensive special effects the actress has had to endure playing the twins and was quick to lend his support: “I felt bad for her this year from a technical standpoint. From the Fantastic Four, I know about really oppressive costuming, and so I was able to help her in that way and make her laugh when she had that second skull on her shoulder all day.”
I would love to see Chiklis return to season five especially as we will be losing the powerhouse that is Jessica Lange next year, and who knows maybe he would make it through the whole season next year.
