The casting announcements for the new Criminal Minds spinoff just keep coming, and boy is this a good one.
Anna Gunn, who was last seen in Gracepoint; the Fox reboot of British crime drama Broadchurch, will be joining the new CBS drama. According to reports, Gunn will play Ally Lambert who is an international law expert and linguist, skills which will make her a vital part of the new overseas team.
Gunn, who was also in Breaking Bad, joins Gary Sinise and Tyler James Williams who will play new unit chief Jack Garrett, and technical analyst Monty respectively. The pilot for the still unnamed spin off will air as an episode of Criminal Minds, reportedly episode 19. The “pilot” episode has been written by Criminal Minds showrunner Erica Messer, and hopefully this new show will have more success than Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior which was cancelled after only one season.
The more news we are given about this new show, the more excited I get. The casting choices show that CBS are really putting their weight behind it and hopefully that will pay off. I hope this new show has the success of other spinoff series such as NCIS: New Orleans, and Sinise’s previous vehicle CSI: NY.
Another thing that I like about the sound of this show is that the characters don’t seem to be carbon copies of the original BAU team, which would have been very easy to do. It is expected that the show will premiere in full in the Fall 2015 schedule, and although we still need to complete the team I would REALLY like to know what they have chosen to call the new show.
Here’s hoping that CBS will make Wednesday’s Criminal Minds night, and renew the original show as I am not ready to say goodbye to Hodge and the rest of the BAU just yet.
