From what we’ve seen of 20th Century Fox’s upcoming film, Kingsman: The Secret Service, it is turning out to possibly be the film that you never knew you wanted to see, particularly for fans of one Mr Colin Firth.

Based upon the acclaimed comic book and directed by Matthew Vaughn (Kick Ass, X-Men First Class), Kingsman: The Secret Service tells the story of a super-secret spy organisation that recruits an unrefined but promising street kid into the agency’s ultra-competitive training program just as a global threat emerges from a twisted tech genius.

Certainly sounds like any run-of-the-mill tween/early teen coming-of-age, superhero-esque film. However, you need to look at the cast line up. Apart from Firth, we have Michael Caine, Mark Strong, Jack Davenport, and Mark Hamill, along with newcomer Taron Egerton. Pretty impressive bunch of chaps right there.

Both trailers for the film (trailer one and two) have showcased the humour and action that is encapsulated in the film, leading us to believe there just might be more to this graphic novel adaptation than meets the eye. This is further cemented in the newly released sneak peek scene featuring Firth and Egerton.

Obviously taken from an early part of the film, the scene not only shows Firth’s character’s excellent taste in beer (a pint of Guinness – man after my own heart), but you get to see him bust out some impressive fighting moves, and no I’m not talking Bridget Jones’ Diary Mark Darcy and Daniel Cleaver fighting.

Check out the clip below (you’ll need to have QuickTime)

So where can I get one of those umbrellas?

There’s long been a push from fans for Firth to appear as James Bond. Unfortunately, I think Harry Hart is going to be the closest he will ever get to the British secret agent. Harry at least gives you a glimpse at what could have been, with a rather large dose of humour and wit dished up on the side, and I definitely know which one I’d prefer.

Kingsman: The Secret Service is in cinemas in the UK from January 29 and the US from February 13.
