Hot off their double win at this week’s Logo TV New Now Next Awards (bagging the gong for Best New Television Series and Jonathan Groff took home Best New Television Actor), HBO’s Looking is gearing up for its season 2 return next month with the release of a new trailer.
“This is exactly what we need. Peace, tranquility, nature’s majesty just all around us.” After the hustle, bustle and drama of San Francisco, it’s no wonder the boys need a little “me” time. Luckily for them (and us), Doris (Lauren Weedman) has invited herself along to the little “sausage party”. Yep, you can try and run from your problems, but you certainly can’t hide from them.
Season 2 finds us pretty much where we left off in season 1. Patrick (Jonathan Groff) is torn between his two lovers (c’mon Patrick choose Richie [Raúl Castillo], he’s so good for you and kind and so, so pretty). Dom (Murray Bartlett) is still loved up with Lynn (Scott Bakula), though there are hints that there might be trouble in paradise there, and after his horrible break up with Frank last season, Agustín (Frankie J. Álvarez) is ready to try out the San Fran dating scene again.
With Weedman, Castillo and Russell Tovey (Patrick’s boss and some-time lover, Kevin) all boosted to series regular status, their storylines, as hinted in the trailer, have me so excited about this well-deserved promotion. Here at 4YE, we’re big fans of the Patrick-Richie-Kevin love triangle so any reason to have these three on our screens more, playing off one another, is cause for celebration. I am also absolutely in love with Doris. I love her frankness, her sass and the gusto with which she travels through life. Here’s hoping this season she finds what she’s looking for.
We also get our first glimpse at newcomer, Mean Girls’ Daniel Franzese. He definitely looks like a lot of fun and could spice things up a bit.
Also posted yesterday (December 4) on the show’s official Instagram were individual character profile clips similar to those used during last month’s season 2 teaser trailer. Head over to the site to check out Patrick, Dom, Agustín, Doris, Kevin, and Richie’s videos. You won’t be disappointed. Here’s a preview with Patrick’s below:
Looking returns to HBO on January 11 at 10/9c.
