It looks as if the back end of the powerhouse second season of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will be chock full of backstory goodness. In addition to a recent interview where Jed Whedon confirmed that we will get to see what exactly happened with May and Coulson in Bahrain, we’ve got something else to be pumped about. It looks as if we’ll be seeing even more of the mysterious May’s life outside of the bus! THR reports that veteran actor Blair Underwood has been cast as May’s barely referenced estranged ex-husband, who now has a name: Dr. Andrew Garner.
Underwood’s casting welcomes yet another high-profile actor into the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. fold. The two-time Golden Globe nominee is best known for having starred in L.A. Law, and had noteworthy appearances in ABC’s Dirty Sexy Money and the critically acclaimed series In Treatment. Underwood is also an accomplished stage actor, having recently starred in a production of Othello and taking to Broadway in 2012 as Stanley in A Streetcar Named Desire.
Underwood will reportedly begin filming for S.H.I.E.L.D. in the coming week. The show returns March 3rd at its usual 9 PM EST time slot.
