We’re gonna hear her “Roar”, cos “This is how we do”…

Yes folks, one of the most amazing consummate performers of our time, Katy Perry, has been confirmed as the headline of the 49th Super Bowl Halftime Show.

Across the globe, the halftime show has become almost bigger than the game itself. I know a group of people who only tuned in last year JUST to watch the ads (and I am NOT joking; we tuned in JUST to see the Jaguar ad).

The news of Perry’s performance was revealed by Bob Costas during the Sunday Night Football Cowboys-Giants match-up.

Back in October, various sites reported that the Teenage Dream singer had signed on as the main act, and that she’d been on a short list that included Rihanna and Coldplay. Last year’s halftime show, during the game between the Seahawks and the Broncos, featured Bruno Mars and Red Hot Chilli Peppers and was watched by over 115 million viewers in the US alone. The Seahawks won for those who aren’t up to speed on NFL.

Not only is the halftime show beyond massive, the advertising spots for this section are considered among the most prime on the planet. Last year, we saw trailers for Transformers: Age of Extinction, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, , The Monuments Men and Pompeii, The Lego Movie, Captain America: The Winter Soldier as well as  Muppets Most Wanted.

The video below was released by Pepsi and really does show Perry’s awesome sense of humour. Will she be wrapped in bacon, will she get the pegasus or the unicorn? And what will happen to the 1000 kittens post performance?

Having recently attended a show in Australia of Perry’s PRISM tour, I can only imagine the amazing performance she is going to create for this worldwide screened extravaganza.

Super Bowl XLIX will be broadcast Sunday, Feb. 1, on NBC. The game will be held at University of Phoenix Stadium in Arizona.
