Penelope Cruz had better be perfecting her signature pose as the actress is signing on to star in the upcoming sequel, Zoolander 2, reports Deadline.

Cruz will be joining the Ben Stiller-directed, Justin Theroux-written sequel to the hilarious 2001 modeling spoof, Zoolander. Stiller will once again be flashing us Derek Zoolander’s Blue Steel looks. However, there’s been no official confirmation as yet that he will be reunited with Will Ferrell’s evil Mugato or his supermodel rival, Hansel (Owen Wilson).

Zoolander told the story of the dim-witted supermodel, Derek Zoolander, who finds himself on the outer as fresh, highly skilled, new talent, the left-and-right turning Hansel, finds his star ascending. Tricked into thinking he was working on fashion mogul Mugato’s latest runway show, he was really being brainwashed in a plot to assassinate the Malaysian president.

Filled with comedic scenes that have wormed their way into our collective memories over the years – a petrol “fight” while filling up, the “walk off” between Derek and Hansel, and the extremely vital creation and building of The Derek Zoolander Center for Kids Who Can’t Read Good and Wanna Learn to Do Other Stuff Good Too – the development of a sequel has proved elusive to Stiller. Now, after 13 years it appears that it is finally coming off. However, where could a sequel possibly take us? The first film ended with Derek leaving his modeling days in the past and settling down with Matilda (Christine Taylor) with a young son, and the Center on his hands.

Back in 2010, Stiller’s plans were that the sequel would be set ten years or so after the first film and focus on the changes within the fashion industry over that time. “In the fashion world, if you go away for a year, it’s changed – it just happens so quickly,” he told MTV. “I think the idea in the beginning of the movie is that it’s 10 years later, and Derek and Hansel are literally forgotten. Nobody remembers who they are, so they have to reinvent themselves.”

There is certainly room for comedy there.

There has been no word yet on when filming will start or a prospective release date.
