Freak Show is shaping up to be the scariest season of American Horror Story to date and there’s still just under a week left under the very first episode airs. If the stills, teaser trailers, full length trailer and opening credits are anything to go by, we are going to be wanting to watch this one with house lights blazing, a comforting blankie within arms reach, and the phone off the hook/on silent so not to be startled by any sudden unexpected noises. However, there might be some reprieve if creator Ryan Murphy is to be believed.
After posting a link to a sneak peek earlier this week, which had fans running from their screens, Murphy replied to one fan’s tweet about how scary the latest incarnation looked, hinting that star Jessica Lange will be once again exercising her vocal chords, tackling a Lana Del Rey song.
@ttbradley Tina, don’t be afraid! The clown is scary, true. But don’t you wanna see Jessica Lange sing a Lana Del Rey song?

What song this could possibly be is anybody’s guess? As we know this season’s action takes place back in 1952 in a Jupiter, Florida freak show. Lange stars as German expatriate Elsa Mars who manages one of the last surviving troupes in the US. I’d love to see her cover “Summertime Sadness.” The song has the right amount of melancholy that could work within that context and I can easily picture Lange in the following lines:
I got my red dress on tonight
Dancing in the dark in the pale moonlight
Done my hair up real big beauty queen style
High heels off, I’m feeling alive.
American Horror Story: Freak Show premieres with a special 90 minute episode October 8 on FX, and October 21 on FOX in the UK.
