We are getting a film reboot of Fantastic Four next year. Sadly, we might not get any more comics with the adventures of the super team.
Although Marvel Comics has previously denied rumours that Fantastic Four was ending, a solicitation has been discovered for a collection marking the end of the series.
A few months ago, we reported about Marvel’s plans to cancel the series as Fox holds the live-action license to X-Men and Fantastic Four, which makes Marvel believe that by continuing with the comic series, they would be boosting Fox’s films at the expense of Marvel Studios, which is owned by Disney. Of course, they are not touching X-Men because of the huge fan base and the good sells.
According to Bleeding Cool, the end is coming under the title of “The End is Fourever”.
The book will collect the last four issues of the title and will probably be renumbered next year, making a total count of over 600 numbers of Marvel’s first super team.
“ ’The End is Fourever’! Witness the closing act on the First Family of the Marvel Universe! The Invaders meet the Fantastic Four as the hunt for Reed Richards and the missing kids of the Future Foundation continues. Meanwhile, the mastermind behind everything unveils his ultimate plan. But how does Franklin Richards factor in? And how does this all lead to… The End?! Collecting Fantastic Four #642-644 and the Triple Sized Final Issue 645!” reads the solicitation reads.
For the first time, I don’t know what to say about all this. If Marvel is indeed putting an end to Fantastic Four for the reasons that have been speculated, I honestly think it’s a bit childish. After all, it was the very first super team from Marvel; it would be terrible to end it for reasons like those.
In Marvel I trust, so if they decide to cancel the series, I bet they will have a better reason than what the rumours are saying.
