Years ago, Will Smith stole our hearts as a love doctor in the much loved rom-com Hitch. Now, following recent trend, the actor is bringing the character back as a television character.
EW reports that a comedy series based on the 2005 film is currently being developed for Fox . There has been no word on if Will Smith and King of Queens’ Kevin James will reprise their classic roles, but we do know that Will Smith and Jada Smith will executive produce the show. Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont will pull double duty on the comedy where they will both write and executive produce.
The comedy will be a half-hour, single-camera series based on the film which follows Alex “Hitch” Hitchens, a love doctor of sorts who’s love consultancy practice is tested when he helps his client Albert Brennaman (James).
EW describes the show as being “a workplace comedy that explores dating and sexual politics.” This sounds reminiscent of its original material, so we have high hopes. Unlike other impending movie to television adaptations that have been announced recently (Big, Marley & Me, Monster in Law), Hitch shows some serious promise. Our guess is that every episode will feature Hitch dealing with a new client, against the larger backdrop of his budding relationship and him coming to terms with love.
We can safely say we are looking forward to seeing how the original film’s plot line is executed in the television show.
