Who Wants To Look At BTS Downton Pics? Why, We Do Of Course!

Yes, it is less than a week away. Sunday, 21st September folks. Mark the date in your diary, disconnect all mobile devices, make a cup of tea and settle down, for Downton series 5 is upon us. Now, I know the main reason everyone is excited is because of the awesome recaps 4YE will be bringing you, but before all that happens, we’ve got some wonderful behind the scenes pictures from the Telegraph to show you.

The first two pictures show Highclere Castle in all its beautiful glory. Seriously, it is a stunning sight and one which I never tire of. If I was Lord Grantham I’d be pretty proud of my modest home, which is probably why he’s so scared of the changes the new Labour government will bring.

Oh Edith. You’re not going to find the answer to life’s woes by staring forlornly into the fireplace, are you? Have a chat to Granny instead. I am pretty sure this series will actually see Edith admitting all to the Dowager Countess, including how she wants to get her baby back, and to be honest, with her no-nonsense, practical approach to trouble and strife, I can’t think of a better confidant.

Downton Abbey comes alive when filled with guests, and the hustle and bustle of servants milling about and excited chatter from the upstairs characters fills the air. Here’s hoping we see lots of it for the fifth series. As a side note, don’t Lady Rose and Lady Mary look stunning in their elegant flapper dresses? I’d look ridiculous wearing beads around my forehead, like I’d got stuck trying to put a necklace on.

First things first, let’s take a look at the top picture of this pair. Carson in discussion with a police officer, who is busy taking notes. Why? What for? Has someone died while having sex with Lady Mary again? (Still one of Downton‘s funniest storylines.) My guess, and therefore entirely accurate opinion, is that Carson is being questioned about Mr Bates’ conduct, and I also think that whatever Bates did or didn’t do to the hideous valet that raped his wife, Carson will defend him to the bitter end.

I just adore the second picture in this pair, obviously taken during a break in filming. The easy rapport between Allen Leech, Michelle Dockery and Jim Carter shows why we love watching them interact on our screens. I am particularly fond of the friendship between Lady Mary and Branson as they struggled to deal with the passing of Sybil, and also the adorable Father/daughter relationship between Lady Mary and her beloved Carson.

Top shot: Lord Grantham, Lady Mary and Tom Branson out and about in the village (though I hope they edit the plastic drainpipe out of the shot). They’re probably on business, I know, but the only business I have about this picture is to say I don’t like Lady Mary’s coat. It’s too drab.

Moving on to the second picture, which gives us Richard E. Grant as art historian Simon Bricker. Here he is, standing neatly on his marker and showing a painting to Lady Grantham. Methinks that’s not all he’s going to try and show her this series. (Disclaimer: I know nothing, I am wildly speculating but who doesn’t love outlandish guesswork?)

Top picture: Dame Maggie Smith and Penelope Wilton have a natter between takes. What a glorious picture!

The bottom picture shows something that is always one of my favourite scenes in any episode of Downton; dinner. I’m hoping this is between takes, otherwise Edith’s table manners have gone to pot, not to mention she’s forgotten to hang up her coat, but look! Sarah Bunting is at the table too! Does this signify her acceptance into the Grantham family bosom? Are things getting serious between her and Tom?

Who knows, but be sure to tune in on Sunday at 9pm ITV1 to see all out favourites back on screen once more!
