Neil Patrick Harris. Child TV star, talented actor on stage and screen, father, newlywed and possibly an actual god among men. Pretty much everything this man does is amazing, whether it’s wowing us all on stage in Hedwig and the Angry Inch, raising a smile as Barney Stinson or posting the most adorable pictures of him, husband David Burtka and their two gorgeous children.
It should come as no surprise then that his autobiography, set to be released on October 14, is better than any other celeb memoirs ever released. Not that I’ve read it, but I really don’t need to in order to extol its virtues, because Neil Patrick Harris, Ladies and Gentlemen, has written his autobiography as a Choose Your Own Adventure book.
Yes, that’s right. The books that were a staple of my childhood, where you could create a different story each time depending on what path you chose, have now been adapted to tell us the tale of Harris’ upbringing, his career, his adventures and his life with husband David.
Not only that, but Harris has made the most legen… wait for it… dary trailer to promote his new book, in true choose your own adventure style.
The trailer starts with he actor introducing his book, explaining the choose your own style, and then wondering aloud how he can demonstrate this visually. Using split screen technology, viewers then get to watch him perform magic, sink in quicksand, perform his Hedwig vocal warm up and watch him and his husband re-enact the spaghetti scene from Lady and the Tramp.
My favourite though, is watching him do shots of rubbing alcohol. Hilarious. The whole trailer is just incredibly funny, and you need this, along with his book, in your life.
Neil Patrick Harris: Choose Your Own Autobiography will be released in stores and online on October 14. Watch the fantastic trailer below.
