It has been announced today that Six Foot Under and Dexter star Michael C. Hall will be the next star in the Tony winning Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Hall will be replacing Andrew Rannells, best known for his roles Book of Mormon and The New Normal. Rannells took over from newly wed Neil Patrick Harris in August and will play the role of the “internationally ignored song stylist” until October 12.
The lead producer for the Broadway hit, David Binder said that Rannells’ contract was only for eight weeks; news which always made me a little sad, as I will miss out on the chance to see him in the role by 24 hours! Michael C. Hall is slated to perform the role of Hedwig following Rannells’ departure until January 4, 2015. I was rather hoping that the producers may have been able to extend Rannells’ run as I have been a huge fan of this massively talented individual for a long time, however I am really pleased that the show will continue to run on the Great White Way for a little bit longer. It appears that Lena Hall will continue to thrill audiences in her role as Yitzhak, which she of course won a Tony Award for this year, so I really hope I can grab a ticket when I am in New York next month.
I can imagine that there will be many people who will be very excited to see Hall in a very different role when he takes over from October 14 at the Belasco Theatre, New York.
