Our new favourite group of space misfits are still the kings of this summer’s box office.
Guardians of the Galaxy has officially surpassed $500 million worldwide, grossing $255.2 million domestically and $245.3 million overseas. Not bad for an eclectic group from space, people didn’t have faith in!
When Marvel announced Guardians of the Galaxy was going to be a film, many of us were sceptic, but they proved us wrong with their clever dialogues, breath-taking space scenarios, awesome soundtrack (see what I did there?), and tons of action. And look at them now, owning that box office like it was an infinity stone.
Director James Gunn shared the good news on his Facebook page, with a very Gunn-like post:
“So Guardians of the Galaxy just passed half a billion dollars worldwide. That’s almost exactly half a billion dollars more than my last movie.
And, guys, WE’RE STILL GOING STRONG. We haven’t even opened in China, Japan, Germany, or Italy yet. Not to mention Xandar, Drez-Lar, or A’askavarii. Marvel movies don’t generally do well on A’askavarii, but I’m hoping this one will change that.”
He is awesome.
Guardians of the Galaxy is still in theatres in case you haven’t watched it (shame on you! Stop reading and go watch it!) or if you want to watch it again.
