What a to-do; Twitter and Tumblr are in meltdown. Glee fans are more than a little confused right now, and lovers of the Kurt Hummel and Blaine Anderson relationship – Klaine – are downright upset. Spoilers released today reveal that Dave Karofsky, the bully who made Kurt’s life hell for years, is returning for the sixth and final season, and may be in a relationship with Kurt’s fiancé, Blaine.
Wait –at the end in the season five finale Blaine moved back into Kurt’s apartment and there were dancing unicorns and puppies and cupcakes. What happened? It’s Glee, that’s what happened.
Show runner Ryan Murphy said in June that there would be a time-jump, and that the show would be returning to its beginnings at McKinley High School. While this was a disappointment for those of us who love the New York storylines and sets (and outfits!), many people still held out hope that their favourites would all get happy endings.
Then we found out that the final season would be a paltry thirteen episodes. There will also be five major characters added to the show. That doesn’t leave much room for us to revel in Klaine wedding preparations now does it?
Murphy famously tweeted in 2012 a simple “21” in response to a fan questioning the age at which Kurt would get married. Klaine have already broken up once; could season six begin with them apart yet again? Can we hope that these few episodes will wrap up their relationship happily ever after? True or not, these spoilers are making that seem doubtful.
All is not lost however. RIB (Murphy together with co-creators Ian Brennan and Brad Falchuk) are well known for surprising Glee fans with plot twists and unexpected…events (The Break Up, anyone?). Also, Glee co-executive producer and writer Michael Hitchcock cryptically tweeted “Klaine Forever” in the middle of the social media meltdown.

I guess all we can do is wait and see, and in the meantime read lots of fanfiction.
Filming on the final season of Glee begins next month, with an air date of early 2015.
