Sam Smith dropped his latest music video onto the world today and get your tissues out because it’s a tearjerker. The music video is for the next single off his debut album, I’m Not The Only One and it’s directed by Luke Monaghan.
The video stars former Glee actress, Dianna Agron, in what can only be described as her most heart wrenching role to date. She plays the wife of Chris Messina, known for his role in The Mindy Project, who goes through an emotional roller coaster over her husband’s affair. We watch her seem happy enough as she’s making him breakfast and asking for a kiss as he’s in a rush to go be with his lover on the side. The act goes away quickly as we see the smile fade and the devastated look appears.
I know this is supposed to be a Sam Smith music video, but for me the real star of it has to be Agron. She not only proved any doubters of her acting abilities wrong, but she completely shattered any doubt that she couldn’t pull off an emotional role. She brought the song to life and it was like she was living the lyrics through herself. The lyrics sung by Smith, who played a lounge singer in the video, “I can’t believe you let me down, but the proof’s in a way it hurts” showed Agron uncontrollably sobbing and showing how deeply hurt her character is by the affair.
The devastation soon makes her decide on some irrational choices as she heads to the store to pick up a few items that include some alcohol and lighter fluid. With these things in hand she heads home on a mission to put her items to work as she decides to burn some of her husband’s clothing in their front yard showing no remorse for her actions.
The video takes an unexpected turn at the end as her husband comes home after a night of passionate sex with his affair and she’s letting him in like nothing had happened with a forced smile on her face as he kisses her neck.
A huge shout-out has to go out to Agron’s Glam Team who gave her the devastatingly beautiful look. The look was done by make-up artist Georgie Eisdell, hair stylist Jenny Cho, and stylist Samantha McMillen.
