Gone Girl director David Fincher has spoken out about the rumoured new ending for the film, which stars Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike.
Fincher was asked about what had changed in the ending of the film, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, via Vulture, and said,”Everything and nothing.” He also added, “You’re not changing the marrow of the creature. You’re just changing the bone structure and the muscles and the skin. And the hair. It’s all of its outer sheathing. But at its core, it’s exactly what I think Gillian always intended.”
Back in January, Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn spoke about the film and, in particularly, writing a whole new scene, “There was something thrilling about taking this piece of work that I’d spend about two years painstakingly putting together with all its 8,000,000 LEGO pieces and take a hammer to it and bask it apart and reassemble it into a movie.”
She also revealed what Ben Affleck thought of the new scene, “Ben (Affleck) was so shocked by it.” Adding, “He would say, ‘This is a whole new third act! She literally threw that third act out and started from scratch.”
Gone Girl will be released on October 3rd in the US and the UK and also stars Neil Patrick Harris and Tyler Perry.
