Alice In Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass, the much anticipated sequel to Tim Burton’s 2010 Alice In Wonderland is about to start principal photography, but who will be back to reprise their roles?
Well, practically all of them is the short answer. Helena Bonham Carter will return as the Red Queen, and Anne Hathaway as the White Queen. The beautiful Mia Wasikowska is back as Alice, and Matt Lucas will once again play Tweedledum and Tweedledee.
Familiar voices will also return; Stephen Fry as the Cheshire Cat, Michael Sheen as the White Rabbit, Timothy Spall as Bayard, Paul Whitehouse as the March Hare and Barbara Windsor as Dormouse. The delectably decadent tones of Alan Rickman are also back as the Blue Caterpillar.
The most exciting return casting for me though is Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter. This isn’t a surprise; we all knew he would be returning but he really made the film go from just a fairly enjoyable piece into a stand out movie for me, and I can’t wait to see him reprise his role.
New casting announcements have also been made, including Sacha Baron Cohen as Time, and Rhys Ifans as the Mad Hatter’s father, which should be simply wonderful to behold.
I love the darker side to Disney, and I’m overjoyed that Tim Burton will be returning to produce with James Bobin directing. Burton does dark like no other, and this movie in anyone else’s hands simply wouldn’t work.
Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass will film on location in England and is slated for release on May 27, 2016.
