The cast has been revealed for the BBC’s upcoming adaptation of Lady Chatterley’s Lover and it has some very familiar faces included.
For starters, The Borgias and Bonnie and Clyde star Holliday Grainger will star in the title role of Lady Chatterley, while Game of Thrones star Richard Madden will play gamekeeper Oliver Mellors. Meanwhile James Norton (Happy Valley) will play Lady Chatterley’s “war-wounded husband” Sir Clifford Chatterley.
The novel, which was written by D.H. Lawrence, was censored for almost 30 years after it’s publication in 1928 due to its “explicit sexual content”, a trial was even held in Britain in 1960 to discover whether the book fell under the Obscene Publications Act for the country. The novel was adapted in 1993 as a series for the BBC, which was directed by Ken Russell and starred Joely Richardson and Sean Bean.
The 90-minute adaptation, which begins filming in Wales this October, is a joint production by Hartswood Films and Serena Cullen Production. Executive producer for Hartswood Films, Beryl Vertue said, “I am delighted to be working with Serena Cullen who developed this exciting project, and Jed’s great screenplay has enabled us to attract these fine actors.”
The drama is one of 4 adaptations that will air in 2015, the list include JB Priestley’s An Inspector Calls, Laurie Lee’s Cider With Rosie and LP Hartley’s The Go-Between.
