Calling my fellow book junkies, I have amazing news to share with you. Are you ready?
JK Rowling said at the Theakstons Old Peculiar Crime Writing Festival that she plans on publishing more crime novels.
Rowling recently released her second crime novel featuring detective Cormoran Strike (from The Cuckoo’s Calling), and says she wants to publish more than the seven books from the Harry Potter series.
“It’s pretty open ended. I really love writing, so I don’t know that I’ve got an end point in mind”, Rowling explained.
“One of the things I love about this genre is unlike Harry Potter, where there was a through line, where there was an overarching story, a beginning and end, you are talking about discreet stories. So while a detective lives, you can keep giving him cases”.
She also talked a bit about why she decided to publish these novels under the pen name Robert Galbraith, stating that she wanted to get a book published on its own merit.
“I had known for a long time that I had this character in mind, and that I wanted to write a detective series and part of me hoped that I might be able to keep it long enough, kept the story going long enough to establish a series. I just wanted something, I suppose, just for me”, she said.
Last week, Rowling revealed a short Harry Potter story online, depicting the life of a 34-year-old Harry attending the Quidditch World Cup.
Oh, the feels!
JK Rowling and crime novels is most likely my new favourite combo. I can’t put into words how happy I am that she decided to continue on that path! And you can be sure I will buy them all.
