It’s not quite so legen- wait for it -dary.
It appears that How I Met Your Dad, the spin-off of long-running series How I Met Your Mother that reached its conclusion earlier this year, is “definitely dead for now”, a source has told E! Online. The pilot, that was created by How I Met Your Mother’s Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, seemed guaranteed a spot on our screens for the coming TV season, but in the end wasn’t picked up by CBS or any other network. The source went on to say, “nothing further is happening with it at the moment” about the project which was set to star Greta Gerwig with narration from Meg Ryan, as the mother telling her kids the story of how she met their dad. Gerwig and the rest of the cast have now been let out of their contracts.
This will come as no surprise to those who paid attention during the up fronts, as CBS’ Nina Tassler explained “[T]here were elements of the pilot that didn’t work out”.
Despite reports from TVLine that a new cast was being looked in to for the show to be re-developed for the 2015/16 season, series co-creator Carter Bays took to his twitter to clarify, saying, “I don’t know why I keep reading articles about this, but since nobody bothers asking us: We are really, truly not working on HIMYD anymore,” continuing, “HIMYD was fun to work on, terrific cast, terrific writer, but it’s over now and we have other stuff we want to do… Maybe in the future it could be something, but I think we need to try something new before we go back to it,” finally joking, “To everyone who wanted to see it, I’m sorry. (And to everyone who didn’t, you’re welcome!)”
Based on nine reasons of comedy from the How I Met Your Mother gang, I would love to see the spin-off. Taking the disappointing HIMYM finale into account, however, this news may be for the best for now.
