It’s not often I see a trailer that warms me as much as The Skeleton Twins trailer did. SNL colleagues Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader star together in this dramedy about twins Maggie and Milo trying to reconnect after ten years apart.

When they both cheat death on the same day- Milo by surviving a suicide attempt- they decide that the time has come to reunite, with Milo moving in with Maggie and her husband Lance (Luke Wilson). The couple are trying for a baby, Lance reveals, but all is not well in their marriage. Even so, Maggie’s main issue is with her brother and vice versa, so they set about trying to rebuild their relationship even while dealing with other personal baggage.

I wasn’t really expecting to enjoy the trailer for this as much as I did, but as a sibling myself, even in the brief two and a half minutes we got, there were many things that brought a smile to my face and a tear to my eye.

What I liked the most about this trailer was the strong performances from Wiig and Hader. Both clearly comfortable with one another, the script and casting seems to play to their strengths, making them totally believable as siblings.

The film was well received at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, and was the winner of the Best Screenplay Award. It is now set for cinema release in the US on September 19, but sadly it is still listed simply as “2014” for the UK. Let’s hope it gets a date soon.
