Marvel-ites will have one more thing to fangasm over come May of next year. Hayley Atwell is going to reprise her role as SSR Director Peggy Carter in Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Cue mass hysteria and squeeing.
That’s right fans, Steve Roger’s leading lady is returning to grace the big screen once again with her awesomeness. She was last seen in The Winter Soldier and will be seen again soon on the small screen in Marvel’s Agent Carter which should begin filming later this summer.
What brought along this Marvel-ous appearance? Atwell told Entertainment Weekly (via ScreenRant) that it all happened over drinks with film director and writer Joss Whedon.
“We went out drinking one night and he was like, ‘You know, it would be great to write something for you,'” she says. “And I was like , ‘Yes, Joss, it would! It would be amazing!'”
Whedon, who is known for writing kick ass female characters (Buffy Summers instantly comes to mind), has stated that he wrote a killer scene between Rogers and Carter for the first Avengers film but it was ultimately never filmed. Whedon said it was because it was “killing the rhythm” of the blockbuster.
So, the big question is: will Atwell’s Carter be seen in flashbacks like set reports have alleged? Or will Atwell be playing an older Carter? Atwell and Evans were seen in London during filming at the Brivoli Ballroom with “Lindy Hop” extras. It’s entirely possible that we may see glimpses of the past in Age of Ultron. Joining the ballroom scene was Paul Bettany’s the Vision. That sounds interesting enough as it is. I can’t wait to see it play out in film.
While I’ve never seen Peggy Carter in action (I know, I know, but, Captain America films don’t appeal to me), I cannot wait to check out the new film next year. I also can’t wait to see what they do with her on the small screen. If the SDCC joint poster with AoS is anything to go by, it’ll be really epic.
