For most people, having knee surgery and being unable to fly in for your schedule panel at a convention means that panel is replaced by something boring or just cancelled altogether. When you’re Joss Whedon, that panel is taken over by your friend Nathan Fillion and he makes it epic.
Then you crash your own panel anyway. Why? Because you’re Joss Whedon. That’s why.
Sunday, July 27, at Nerd HQ, was supposed to include a Conversation for a Cause for the geek god Joss Whedon. The Conversation, which had sold out in minutes when tickets were released two weeks ago, became a big question mark when it was clear the Avengers director was not going to be able to make the trip from London to San Diego due to his recent knee surgery. So it came to be that attendees sat chattering excitedly, wondering who would step in for Whedon.
That’s when Fillion emerged on stage to wild applause.
And because everyone loves him, he was able to get four awesome co-panelists at the last minute: Alan Tudyk, Chloe Bennet, Liam McIntyre, and Seth Green.
The five actors, most of whom have worked directly with/for Whedon, happily answered the audience’s questions, even though most were meant for Whedon. Seth Green even produced his S.H.I.E.L.D. ID card (photo below) to prove he was qualified to answer about the show, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Halfway through, Whedon appeared on screen via video cam all the way from London and things got even more marvelous.
