It’s set to be one of the most intriguing films and although its not released until October, the publicity machine for David Fincher’s Gone Girl has kicked into action with the release of four teaser posters ahead of a new trailer due for release later today (July 7).

Gone Girl is an adaptation of 2012’s best-selling novel of the same name by Gillian Flynn. It tells the story of the aftermath of the disappearance and possible murder of Nick Dunne’s (Ben Affleck) wife Amy (Rosamund Pike) who goes missing on their fifth wedding anniversary. Dunne is the prime suspect in her disappearance and possible murder and the four new posters play upon the investigation.

Each poster features an evidence bag containing an item associated with Amy’s disappearance. These include a photo from Amy and Nick’s wedding, a pair of red women’s underwear, a burnt diary note with the chilling words “This man may kill me,” and what looks to be a packing knife of some sort.

I love teaser ads like this that hook the audience in and get you thinking and participating in the action of the film. It’s a very smart move and then to tie it in with the new trailer, builds on the momentum set by the posters. Hopefully the new trailer will continue with the theme of the posters.

Along with Affleck and Pike, Gone Girl stars Neil Patrick Harris, Tyler Perry, Sela Ward, Casey Wilson and Patrick Fugit.

The film also reunites Fincher with Nine Inch Nails’ frontman Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. Following their work together on The Social Network and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Reznor and Ross are on board writing the score for the film.

Gone Girl will be released in both the US and UK on October 3, 2014.
