Tom Hardy and Leonardo DiCaprio in the same film? Be still, my heart.

Hardy will join Leo in his latest venture The Revenant, which is based on Michael Punke’s novel The Revenant: A Novel of Revenge.

DiCaprio will play a 19th century fur trapper who is mauled by a bear, left for dead and then robbed. Against all the odds he manages to survive, and sets out on a treacherous journey seeking revenge on those who betrayed him.

No word on which role Hardy will take, but he’s in it and that’s enough for me. Production on the film will start in September, and executives are aiming for a release date of Fall 2015.

Could this film bag Leo that elusive Oscar at long last? To be honest, based purely on the synopsis alone I’m inclined to say no, but then I will happily be proven wrong, as I really would love nothing more than for DiCaprio to finally get his hands on that gold statuette.

As for Tom Hardy, after his epic performance in Locke, he is now busy filming Brian Helgeland’s Legend, in which he takes on two roles as gangsters Ronald and Reggie Kray. He next stars alongside the late James Gandolfini in The Drop and with Gary Oldman in Child 44.
