The Hollywood casting rumor mill has spit out quite an interesting possibility. Tom Hardy is said to be in talks to reunite with Inception castmate Leonardo DiCaprio in The Revenant.
The film by director Alejandro González Iñárritu is based on Michael Punke’s book, The Revenant: A Novel of Revenge, which in turn is based on the life of 19th century fur trapper Hugh Glass. When Glass is viciously mauled by a grizzly bear, he’s not only left for dead but also robbed of his weapons and tools. Glass vows to survive and exact revenge against those who abandoned him.
The rumor of Hardy’s “serious talks,” which was first reported by Schmoes Know, could mean he’ll be cast as the main antagonist to DiCaprio’s vengeful hero, Glass’ boss, Capt. Andrew Henry. This would align with assumptions from three years ago when Sean Penn was slated to star in the project alongside DiCaprio and was believed to be up for the role as Capt. Henry.
Hardy was most recently seen in Locke. The Revenant notwithstanding, he’s next scheduled to appear in the TV series Taboo, which begins shooting in 2015.
