Summer is coming, which means sun, sea, and, of course, surfboards! That’s right, the Teen Choice Awards are back for 2014, honouring pop culture icons as voted for by their teenage fans aged 13 to 19.
The full list of nominations will include categories including television, music, film, sport, fashion, comedy and web, and today we have only received wave one, so look out for more nominees to come, as well as hosts, performers and presenters!
At the moment it’s all about liars and vampires as Teen Choice favourites Pretty Little Liars and The Vampire Diaries lead the pack with five nominations each, with Glee also securing expected comedy nods. For me, the toughest television category looks to be Choice TV Actor: Sci-Fi/Fantasy, which features The Vampire Diaries’ Salvatore brothers, spin-off The Originals’ Klaus, in addition to the lovable leading men from Once Upon A Time and Teen Wolf, all of which have strong fan-bases. I do, however, see one of the Salvatores’ remaining victorious in this category, although it may be tight.
As far as movies go, both Hemsworth brothers, as well as superstars Jennifer Lawrence, Shailene Woodley, and Angelina Jolie’s Maleficent all feature, and it seems to be the year of the sequel, as Captain America: The Winter Soldier, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Anchorman 2, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, and Thor: The Dark World are also looking to take home surfboards.
A wide variety of music is set to be honoured too, from country to rock to EDM, R&B and hip-hop! Of course, the dedicated Directioners, Swifties and Smilers will also be pleased with their nods and, I expect, voting constantly.
Fans can vote once a day right HERE, and the winners will be announced in a ceremony on Sunday, August 10 live on FOX.
