They’re not my generation, but they’re certainly my Mum’s, and she will no doubt be pleased to know The Who have announced a 50th anniversary tour.
Confirming UK dates for November and December, the group also revealed plans for a new album to be released this summer – their first in eight years.
The tour will also visit North America in 2015, and though not officially billed as a farewell tour, frontman Roger Daltrey does admit it’s the start of “a long goodbye.”
Pete Townshend revealed a little more about the band’s new material, saying that he had given Daltrey three new songs.
“We might try to make the album in a more basic way than we usually do,” he explained, adding that the sound may be “more prog rock than pub rock”.
Well whatever it is, you can be sure The Who fans will appreciate it. The band have always seemed like a bunch of old dad rockers to me, which is something I don’t think they’d try and shy away from. I love them for it, and their songs are fantastic. I think they’ll give this tour their all, and I envy anyone who will get to watch them perform.
The tour starts in Glasgow on November 30, moving onto Leeds and other UK destinations before finishing up in London’s O2 on December 17. Tickets go on sale this Friday (July 4).
