The judging panel has been announced for season 14 of American Idol and in a shocking twist, it is exactly the same as before. Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr will all reprise their roles it was confirmed yesterday (June 23) alongside returning host Ryan Seacrest, who confirmed his deal back in May.
“Jennifer, Keith, Harry and Ryan are the very best in the business at what they do, and I’m thrilled that they are returning to American Idol for another season,” said David Hill, Senior EVP of 21st Century Fox. “Each brings unique qualities and expertise to the team, but they all share the same passion for helping undiscovered singers achieve the American dream.”
They might all be knowledgeable in their field, but does anyone else think this show is tired now? I don’t think that is necessarily the fault of the judges or the host, but more that the format, after 13 seasons, is looking tired and staid.
Along with The X Factor in the UK, I really think shows like these could do with a long break to give the public time to get over their general apathy for the tired reality TV genre. American Idol finished way down on ratings for its 13th season, and sadly, I doubt season 14 will fare much better.
