The lovely Karen Gillan, largely known for her role as Amy Pond on the BBC series Doctor Who, has expressed her desire to play a Marvel superhero in the future! While she can be seen playing Nebula in the Marvel film Guardians of the Galaxy starting August 1, in a recent interview with SFX, Gillan said she would love to play a female version of Spider-Man.
After discovering there was both a Spider-Woman and a Spider-Girl, Gillan excitedly made her decision: “I want to play Spider-Girl!” Spider-Girl, whose real name is May “Mayday” Parker (obviously named after Aunt May), is the daughter of Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson.
Just imagine Gillan bringing her Amy sass into the Spidey world. Imagine how amazing the Spider-Man like inner monologues would be! Plus, with her red hair, she seems practically made for the role to me.
Gillan can soon be seen alongside John Cho in the upcoming ABC series Selfie, playing the lead role of Eliza Dooley. The show is a modernization of My Fair Lady depicting the life of Dooley, a woman obsessed with gaining fame through social media. Selfie is set to premiere in the Fall.
