The first picture has been unveiled of Eddie Redmayne, known for his appearances in Les Miserables and My Week With Marilyn, in his next role as Stephen Hawking in the upcoming biopic Theory of Everything.
Felicity Jones stars alongside Redmayne as Hawking’s first wife Jane Wilde, seen on their wedding day in the first look image, although Wilde looks less than impressed.
The film serves as an adaptation of Wilde’s struggles caring for her husband as described in her memoir Travelling to Infinity: My Life with Stephen, before Hawking eventually left her for his nurse
At last year’s GQ Awards, Redmayne revealed, “I am a huge fan of his. I studied Art History at university… I know nothing about physics, it’s taken me several months just to get my head into the world of what that is, but beyond that he is just an incredibly inspiring man”
Redmayne is also starring as the lead in Tom Hooper’s first directorial effort since Les Miserables, The Danish Girl, chronicling the story of Einar Wegener, one of the first men to undergo gender reassignment surgery. Redmayne will next be seen, however, alongside Mila Kunis and Channing Tatum in Jupiter Ascending this coming July.
Theory of Everything is due to hit cinemas November 7 in the U.S and January 2, 2015 in the U.K, and I, for one, am definitely excited to check out Eddie in what I can only imagine to be a challenging, yet hugely rewarding role.
