Simon Cowell never wastes any time in signing up acts he think will make him some money. Collabro, last weekend’s winners of Britain’s Got Talent, have already been signed to Syco and not only that, their first album is set for release on July 14!
Confirming the news yesterday in a statement, Cowell said: “Collabro were worthy winners of Britain’s Got Talent. I am delighted to welcome them to Syco, and am looking forward to them starting work on their debut album.”
Collabro member Jamie Lambert added “Signing to Syco is the most incredible feeling. We are so lucky and proud to join a family of amazing, talented artists and colleagues and we are thrilled to be working with Syco in order to take Collabro to the next level.
“This is an absolute dream for us, and it’s only the beginning.”
Collabro were worthy winners indeed, wowing the judges and the audience with their stunning rendition of “Stars” from Les Miserables. The group, which had only been together a month when they first auditioned for the show, have won £250,000 and a slot on this year’s Royal Variety Show, though I have no doubt they’ll go on to earn rather more than that.
As for their album…well, I think this is one group that I really do want an entire album of covers from. There are so many classic musical tracks that I would like to hear them sing, and I hope that their album will be in a similar vein to their BGT performances. Given that they’re in the recording studio already, I would say covers will be the way they go, and I am really looking forward to hearing the tracks when the album is released.
