This is the news that some fans have been waiting a long time for.
Channing Tatum has finally been confirmed as the card throwing, Cajun Remy LeBeau, aka Gambit in future X-Men movies. Speaking to Total Film at last night’s X-Men Xperience in London, Lauren Shuler Donner confirmed that Tatum had been cast in the role, she said “It is Channing.”
When asked why she chose the Magic Mike star for this iconic role Shuler Donner went on to say “He’s a rogue, he’s a rascal, just like Remy LeBeau. He can handle the action, as we know, and he’s got a real good heart, I know him personally. He’ll be great for Gambit, and he’s a southerner too, he understands that world, and you know Gambit loves New Orleans.”
Shuler Donner had always been clear that she wanted Tatum for the role, when she named him her ideal choice earlier this year before reports suggested that he was set to be in a solo film. The solo film didn’t pan out, however we can see him soon. Will he make his debut in the new X-Men: Apocalypse? Granted, I don’t like the casting announcement but everyone is a critic and not everyone is as protective as I am over my beloved X-Men.
Tatum himself is excited, telling MTV; “I met with Lauren Shuler Donner. And I would love it. Gambit is really the only X-Man I’ve ever loved. I mean I’ve loved them all, they’re all great, but I guess from being down south – my dad’s from Louisiana, I’m from Mississippi, Alabama, Florida – I don’t know. I just related to him.”
Keep your eyes peeled for more X-Men news and we would love to hear your thoughts on this casting announcement.
In the meantime catch X-Men: Days of Future Past when it hits movie theaters on May 22 in the UK and May 23 in the US.
