Sam Mendes Teases Next Bond Movie: ‘This is Part Two of Skyfall’s Story’

Sam Mendes will be back to Bond universe with the 24th James Bond film.
This film will be linked to the latest Bond hit Skyfall.

Daniel Craig is coming back as the sharp, suited secret agent and John Logan will be in charge of the script once more.

In an interview with The Charlie Rose Show, Mendes spoke about what made him come back for Bond 24:

“I started a number of stories that were incomplete. I cast a new M, I cast a new Moneypenny, I cast a new Q, I cast a new Tanner. […] There was a missing piece now. I felt like there was a way to create the second part of a two-part story”, he said.

Skyfall was the highest-grossing film worldwide for Sony Pictures, the second-highest grossing film of 2012 and was praised by critics around the world.
Let’s not forget it won the BAFTA for Outstanding British Film, so it’s no surprise that Mendes feels a bit of responsibility to please Skyfall fans with this next adventure:

“What we tried to do, and audiences seemed to embrace in Skyfall, was that for the first time characters were allowed to age, and they were allowed to acknowledge the passing of the years, and were allowed to acknowledge the history – in a kind of sly, mischievous way – the history of the franchise that they’ve been part of. And then I started to get really interested again, when they agreed to wait a little longer and not go immediately and not go with two movies but with one, which I felt very strongly about”, Mendes explained.

Among the speculated names for Bond 24 are Penélope Cruz, Ralph Fiennes to return as M, and Chiwetel Ejiofor to play the next villain, with criminal organisation Quantum also rumoured to return and create more chaos.

Bond 24 will be going into production this fall, so we surely will be hearing a lot more about it in the following months.

I must say I’m not a big Bond fan, but Skyfall’s story and scenery definitely got my heart – I can’t wait to see what Sam Mendes will bring for Bond 24!
