Get excited Pixar fans! The hugely popular animation studio have released the first details about their next venture, titled Inside Out.

The project comes from director Pete Docter, who won an Oscar for Up, and has also worked on favourites such as Toy Story, and Monsters Inc.

The film follows five emotions in the mind of 11-year-old Riley, voiced by Amy Poehler (Parks & Recreation), Mindy Kaling (The Mindy Project), Bill Hader, Lewis Black and Phyllis Smith.

“From the tepuis of South America to a monster-filled metropolis, Academy Award-winning director Pete Docter has taken audiences to unique and imaginative places. In 2015, he will take us to the most extraordinary location of all – inside the mind of an 11-year-old named Riley.

Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it’s no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions – Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith). The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley’s mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy, Riley’s main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school.”

Inside Out will be the follow-up to last year’s Monster’s University; with 2014 being the first year Pixar have not released a film since 2005. The Good Dinosaur was originally slated for a 2014 cinematic debut, but, due to production issues, this has now been pushed back to November 2015. This makes Inside Out the next Pixar movie to hit our screens, and is due out June 19, 2015.

Of the development of the film, Pixar Chief Creative Officer John Lasseter has said, “This film is one of the most unique films I have ever been associated with. This is a magical, wonderful, original film.”

Having read the plot synopsis, I’m very excited to meet Riley and her emotions next year!
