Following the hair-pullingly amazing end of Divergent, it seems like its sequel Insurgent can not come fast enough. According to DigitalSpy, additional casting for the film has already been decided, as Octavia Spencer has already been snagged to play the leader of the Amity faction, Johanna.
Insurgent is the second book of the Divergent trilogy, which author Veronica Roth wrapped up just last year with the third and final book, Allegiant. Akiva Goldsman will pen the script for the film which is already scheduled for release on March 20, 2015.
It looks like production is moving fast which gives us Divergent fans high hopes to have future movies released every year for the next two years. It’s always possible that we may have three more years of these films if they go the same route as the Hobbit, Harry Potter and Twilight franchises, which split one story into two or more films. Lets pro long the inevitable sad ending, shall we?
Divergent snagged the number one spot in the US box office following its release, collecting $116 million at the domestic box office.Unfortunately the films UK debut found less success in the box office where it snagged fourth place, vastly surpassed by the past opening weekends of Twilight and The Hunger Games.
Spencer will star in the sequel alongside returning lead cast members Theo James, Shailene Woodley and Kate Winslet.
