The Originals fans, it’s the news we’ve been waiting for!

Ever since the return of Mikael, Esther, and Finn in the season one finale, I have been hoping for a full Mikaelson family reunion when we return to New Orleans this Fall.

We’re one step closer to this, as TVLine have confirmed the return of Nathaniel Buzolic to the show as the Mikaelson baby brother, Kol. Kol’s cheeky nature stole the hearts of many a Vampire Diaries fan when he joined The Orignal’s parent show in its third season, although Jeremy Gilbert later killed him. Following the collapse of the Other Side, populated by all dead supernatural beings, at the end of the last season, Kol’s status is currently unknown. What we do know, however, is that his appearance in The Originals will be as part of a flashback, rather than an undead trip to New Orleans.

Buzolic previously appeared in the show’s pilot, but has not been seen since. He has, however, featured as a ghost on The Vampire Diaries as part of its fifth season. The Australian is currently at Love & Blood ItaCon 2.0 in Rome, Italy, alongside co-stars Paul Wesley, Steven R. McQueen, Matt Davis, Charles Michael Davies, and Michael Malarkey.

As well as the return of a Mikaelson, E! Online reports Sonja Sohn will be taking on the role of Lenore for the show’s sophomore season. As previously reported, Lenore is a very powerful salt-of-the-Earth witch, and a new enemy for Klaus. Sohn, best known for her role as Kima Greggs in The Wire, will make her Originals debut in episode three.

She will be joining the cast of witches alongside Teen Wolf’s Daniel Sharman as Caleb.

The Originals will return this Fall in a new Monday 8pm timeslot.
