CBS has chosen to not pick up How I Met Your Dad. The spin-off to How I Met Your Mother was at one time considered a lock but did not appear on the network’s fall schedule and has now officially been released. Lest you think it has something to do with HIMYM’s divisive series finale, CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler explained, “there were elements of the pilot that didn’t work out.”
Tassler, as reported by Entertainment Weekly, went on to explain the network had wanted to re-tool the comedy’s pilot. CBS has done this in the past with good success, most notably The Big Bang Theory and Numb3rs.
“We tried to reach out and engage them about redoing the pilot, but that it’s just not happening,” Tassler said. “You run into these kinds of issues. You hope they can resolve themselves. They haven’t.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, How I Met Your Dad’s studio and producers wanted a full series commitment before agreeing to redo the pilot episode, which CBS declined.
“I’m heartsick; we loved this brand and we love the producers but it didn’t work out,” Tassler said.
How I Met Your Dad will now have the option to search for a new network. The show stars Greta Gerwig as Sally and has Meg Ryan providing voiceover.
