The Simpsons’ Season 26 premiere will be covered in blood as a character will say goodbye to Springfield.
Executive producers Al Jean and Matt Selman spoke about the upcoming death of a still unrevealed character, even comparing it to Joffrey’s death on Game of Thrones:
“This is going to be a bigger deal than King Joffrey on Game of Thrones – the Yellow Wedding!” Jean said in a conference call with TVLine.
“The character that dies is portrayed by an actor who won an Emmy for playing that character. People who reported on it then reported we were killing an ‘iconic’ character; I’d like to say it’s a great character, but I never used the word ‘iconic’. It’s a terrific character and it [happens in] our premiere this coming year”.
As we know, in the cartoon world a character’s death is not always permanent. Could this be the case?
“We always have kind of a flexible reality”, Jean said, suggesting the character could come back in a Halloween episode or a dream sequence.
“What we told the performer is: ‘This does not mean the end of your participation in The Simpsons” Selman added.
While the internet channels their inner Sherlock Holmes and tries to deduce who this character is, The Simpsons will celebrate its 550th episode this Sunday with a special episode that will see the citizens of Springfield as LEGOs. But hey, not everything is about death for season 26, as a Futurama/Simpsons crossover episode is being planned.
Make your bets, who do you think this character is?
As long as it’s not Otto or Ralph Wiggum, my Simpson-heart will be fine!
