Will ‘Star Wars VII’ Have Another Major Female Role?

When the cast for J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars VII was announced yesterday, the world was divided in to people who were excited about it, and people who were not pleased with the lack of female characters (again).

The Hollywood Reporter, however, claims that the list that was announced yesterday is definitely not the complete cast and there’s room for another female role to join Carrie Fisher (our very own Princess Leia) and Silent Witness’ Daisy Ridley.

The Star Wars VII production has been heavily criticised for featuring only two women among a bunch of male actors, such as John Boyega, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson and Max von Sydow. Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew and Kenny Baker will also return to the galaxy alongside Carrie Fisher.

Another complaint was the lack of diversity among the cast, as it was rumoured that Disney were searching for a mixed-raced female in her 20’s, with Lupita Nyong’o and Maisie Richardson-Sellers attached to this. It is unknown if this female part is still in the script, but we are hoping it is!

The original trilogy had Princess Leia and the prequel trilogy had Queen Amidala, I believe it’s only fair that we get the chance to see more strong female characters in a galaxy that, as far as I know, is big enough to have more than two!

Star Wars: Episode VII will be released on December 18th, 2015.

Now, tell us: which actress would you like to see in this film?
