Rumour has it, along with their work with Pixar on Finding Dory, The Incredibles 2 and Cars 3, Disney have yet another sequel in the works! Henry Jackman, one of the hottest composers currently in the film industry, has hinted that a Wreck-It Ralph 2 is already in development.

In an interview with Collider, Jackman said, “I can’t tell you more, not because I’m being coy, but I believe that it is officially on the cards. I don’t know any more other than a story is indeed being written… the movie itself I thought was a fantastically imaginative and creative piece of work… just as a concept, it would be almost remiss of them not to write another one. It’s a great idea and it’s a great character”.

Jackman scored the first Wreck-It Ralph in 2012, and has more recently worked on Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and the BAFTA-nominated music from Captain Phillips.

Wreck-It Ralph followed video game villain Ralph, voiced by John C. Reilly, as he struggled with his identity as a ’bad guy’, and tried to improve his reputation. The movie grossed $281 million internationally, and was nominated for an Academy Award.

When promoting the DVD/Bluray release of the film two years ago, director Rich Moore teased his ideas for a sequel, including a cameo from Dirk the Daring of Dragon’s Lair, as well as weaving in aspects of mobile/social gaming, saying to Collider, “I don’t exactly know how we could work it in, you know, things like Angry Birds and the With Friends games – only because I love playing them. It just seems like it would be great to work in a story about those types of games that are so prevalent and contemporary and part of today’s culture.” Moore told Hypable another idea he and John C. Reilly had, explaining, “Are there other Ralphs? What would happen if another Fix It Felix, Jr. game was plugged in? Are there other Ralphs that are more contemporary? Is there another version of the game that was made for mobile? Are there those kind of Super Smash Brothers types games where all the characters are gathered in a fighting game? What would that be like for Ralph to come face to face with those different iterations of himself? … it’s created some really cool conversations”

I really liked Wreck-It Ralph (and pretty much everything Disney), so I’m excited to see where they go with this!
