For some people a song, a book, a film or a television series can change their lives completely. It can speak to them on a level that few can achieve, can show them that they aren’t alone, and can inspire them to continue fighting, to reach for their goals or to simply face a new day with a smile. It is not often that stars are able to experience first hand how what they do for a living has affected so many, so when they are given the opportunity, their heartfelt reactions are often difficult to hide… no matter how much of a tough guy they might outwardly project.
The latest celebrity to be shown a glimpse of the impact they have had on their fans is the man in the hat himself, Pharrell Williams. Williams dropped by to speak to Oprah Winfrey and to chat about the success of his hit single “Happy” and his metaphoric rise through the worldwide charts.
As part of the interview, Oprah played a video montage of fan-made videos that were inspired by the single. Williams was obviously left overwhelmed by the clips breaking down and unable to utter a word. Oprah, ever the prepared host, luckily had tissues on hand that she shared with the singer who asked, “Why am I crying on Oprah?”
Williams later explains, “It’s overwhelming because I love what I do and I just appreciate the fact that people have believed in me for so long that I could make it to this point… to feel that.”
