The week Mindy gets a taste of what it’s like to be the ‘Girl Next Door’, Peter finds love, and Danny gets jealous. I can’t believe there is only two more episodes left this season!

What You Need to Know:

Mindy had her web toes fixed and stumbled into the street still high as a kite. Detective Lang catches her talking to a couch and agrees to take her home. While there he does a few home repairs for her. This prompts Mindy to consider buying her own apartment.

Danny is quick to step in and offer to help her, but she wants to do this on her own. It’s clear, however, she may need a bit of help since she’s not quite sure what a condo is. The first place is a dump. Danny then reveals that after attending a Suze Orman seminar he bought another unit in his building as an investment. He’ll let Mindy try it out for a week.

Peter enlists Reed’s help to find him a new batch of women the serial date. American girls are boring, why not move on to some from across the pond? Instead he meets an American, Lauren, who is so out of his league. A brain surgeon and single mother. He has his doubts but boy is he smitten. She isn’t thrilled with his immature ways but she decides to give him a second chance.

Danny starts inviting Mindy over nightly and things are going fine until Peter gives Mindy the heads up that he wants her to live there to keep an eye on her. To test the theory she invites Detective Lang over for dinner, which she burns to a crisp. Danny can’t even believe that she would do such a thing and comes in to interrogate.

Mindy is ready to call off her embargo on men and officially asks Charlie (Detective Lang) on a date. They’re going to watch the meteor shower. Danny comes over to borrow some laundry detergent and attempts to kiss Mindy. She calls his bluff. He’s only interested because another guy is interested and it’s just not going to fly.

So who will Mindy end up with? Charlie or Danny?!

Memorable Quotes

“There are certain things that women should never have to do, like fix a toilet or vote,” Mindy on her lack of ms. Fix-it skills.

“Except the only time I wear overalls is when I’m on my period,” Mindy on Danny’s home improvement wardrobe selection.

“I realize that I’ve been on one adult date in my life and I’m not one to give advice, but that’s a bad idea,” Pete on Mindy’s new digs.

“You’re a little nutjob, I like that.” Detective Lang in response to Mindy’s request for a date.

  1. I have always been a huge fan of Mindy Kaling. She really is awesome. After watching this episode, I’m not sure that I can say I’m a huge fan anymore. For the most part her character on the show has been an empowering figure, portraying the idea that women can be social and fun while also having an education and an important job. I’m not sure if it was her character speaking in the quote “women should never have to…vote,” or herself through her writing, but that quote really took me by suprise. I think most of her work is progressive and empowering to women and I found that quote to be offensive to women and people who have fought for civil rights in this country. Very disappointing.

    1. Hi Kay, I took this episode kind of like a journey for Mindy. She started out with a preconceived notion of what a woman should be and she slowly gained (some) independence through out it. Like she realized she could put the fire out by herself, she didn’t need a man. I think she’s coming to terms with the fact that she’s always relied on them to fix things in her life, both emotionally and literally. I do think that line was in jest and meant to be sarcastic but that may just be me.

Thanks for your feedback and I hope that the show can redeem itself for you!
