Greta Gerwig, who’s set to star in the How I Met Your Mother spinoff, How I Met Your Dad, came out in defense of the series finale, saying she “loved it.” She waited until the episode aired, wanting to be able to “just watch it.”

Gerwig disagreed that Ted and Robin ending up together was a “cop-out” even if it meant the mother dying, which she begged the creators not to do. She said, “I’m such a schmaltzy person. It’s like, yes, I know that Annie Hall is the best ending of all time when they don’t end up together. But really, in my heart of hearts… I love in When Harry Met Sally when they end up together. I’m a little too corny for the sadder version.”

Gerwig also felt that it was in character for Barney to end up alone and the writers stayed true to who everyone was.

It doesn’t come as too big of a surprise that Gerwig would make sure to state her feelings on a finale that caused many fans to call it the “most disappointing finale ever.” I’m not sure she would come out and say she hated it if that was the case, she does have a job on the line.

Of her role in How I Met Your Dad, Gerwig said, “It’s going to be different than the original… It’s a very different feeling than a young woman looking for her true love… But I’m so nervous about it that I have trouble talking about it. I just want it to really exist.”

After tweeting about the HIMYM alternate finale, co-creator Carter Bays tweeted that they’re editing  HIMYD.

I hope for her sake and her fellow cast mates, the HIMYM finale won’t affect HIMYD.
