The world’s most famous selfie is now worth up to a billion dollars, a new report has said. Ellen DeGenres Oscar selfie- taken with stars including Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Bradley Cooper and Julia Roberts, broke Twitter when she snapped and tweeted it while hosting the show.

It went viral immediately, and knocked President Obama off the top spot for the most retweets ever. It was seen by 37 million people around the world, and Twitter itself struggled to cope, reporting intermittent outages for around 20 minutes after the presenter uploaded the picture.

Now Publicis CEO Maurice Levy- whose company also happens to represent Samsung (who provided the phone used to take the picture) has valued it at between $800 million and $1 Billion. He told a recent gathering at an advertising industry conference that his estimate was based on how many people worldwide had seen the photo and shared it via social media.

Ellen DeGeneres proved to be an extremely popular host both with the viewing public and guests attending the ceremony. She took that selfie, dressed as Glinda the good witch and ordered pizza for the celebs to munch while they were watching the show. An estimated 43 million people worldwide watched the ceremony.
